Core Beliefs

1) Equity for All

Equity recognizes individuals have different circumstances and needs, meaning different groups of people need different resources and opportunities allocated to them in order to thrive. I believe in equity for all.

2) Intention vs. Action

An action could be the byproduct of a set of circumstances; understanding the why behind a person’s action goes a long way towards processing instances and events that are relevant to me.

3) Empathy for All

As I’ve learned over time, putting yourself in someone’s shoes is very different than putting yourself in someone’s shoes and trying to think like they do. Empathy allows of us to integrate the beliefs of all into our society vs. excluding specific beliefs.

4) There are No Easy Answers

Time and time again, we’ve seen various leaders and entities promote “silver bullets” or “antidotes” meant to solve a large swath of issues. The folks doing this are usually selling something and when you’re selling something, your primary goal is to transact. People are not just numbers to be optimized: they have fears, hopes, and dreams, some of which are rational and others which might be viewed as irrational…these attributes make us humans; messy, dirty, irrational humans. And for humanity, there are no one-size-fits-all solutions, so always take the time to tailor suggestions to the audience or group you’re addressing.

5) We’re All Trying to Survive

No one chose to be born; we are all here because of someone else’s intent. We might not agree on everything, but we should be working together and making decisions to ensure the survival of our species instead of trying to ensure our individual survival.

6) This World is Meant to Be Shared

If I observe a beauty that moves me, whether that’s an expansive body of what or a piece of art, I want to share it with the world my first vs. trying to monetize it or hoard it for myself. If I learn a new skill or develop a new perspective, I want to share it with the world vs. trying to withhold that information for my own private gain. Not everything needs to be privatized and conquered.
